Forward Purchase Financing for Oilseed Crops Increased 2.6 Times

The volume of contracted sunflower seeds nearly doubled to 37.8 thousand tonnes

Kazakh farmers continue to adjust their crop structure by increasing the share of higher-margin and more in-demand crops. This trend is also reflected in the results of the Food Contract Corporation's forward purchase program. Compared with the previous agricultural season, financing for oilseed crops increased 2.6 times, from 36 thousand tonnes to 95 thousand tonnes.

Following the autumn harvest, agricultural producers plan to deliver 479.8 thousand tonnes of grain and oilseed products to the resources of the national grain operator. Wheat will account for 337.3 thousand tonnes, or about 70% of the total volume. The remaining amount will consist of oilseed flax, barley, sunflower, rapeseed and corn.

In 2026, farmers significantly expanded sunflower cultivation. While forward contracts financed the purchase of 19.9 thousand tonnes of sunflower seeds last season, the volume of contracted products in the current season has nearly doubled to 37.8 thousand tonnes.

The largest deliveries of grain and oilseed products to the Food Contract Corporation are expected from farms located in Kazakhstan's main grain-producing regions. Farmers in the Kostanay Region are expected to supply 228.6 thousand tonnes, producers in the North Kazakhstan Region 162 thousand tonnes, and agricultural enterprises in the Akmola Region 68.3 thousand tonnes.

To expand state support measures for agricultural producers in the Almaty Region and other southern regions, corn purchases have also been included in the forward financing program.

The expansion of the list of financed crops enables farmers to increase production of more profitable and marketable crops while adapting their planting structure more quickly to changing market demand.
