Kazakhstan and Hong Kong Discuss Expanding Trade in Agricultural Products
The parties agreed to prepare a joint action plan aimed at developing trade, investment, and business relations
Kazakhstan and Hong Kong intend to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment. These issues were discussed during a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliyev, Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee, and representatives of the Hong Kong business community.
During the meeting, the parties explored opportunities to expand trade and economic ties, attract investment, and create additional conditions for business development between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong.
According to Arman Shakkaliyev, bilateral trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Hong Kong reached USD 178.8 million in 2025. The Kazakh side expressed interest in increasing exports to the Hong Kong market, including agricultural products, as well as goods from the light and food industries.
Particular attention during the talks was given to the role of Kazakhstan and Hong Kong in international trade. Hong Kong was highlighted as one of the world's leading financial, trade, and logistics hubs, providing access to the Asia-Pacific markets. Kazakhstan, in turn, is viewed as an important transport, logistics, and trade gateway to Central Asia, the Eurasian Economic Union countries, and Europe.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to develop a joint plan of practical measures. The plan will include business missions, meetings between entrepreneurs, and the development of promising investment initiatives.
In addition, the parties agreed to hold a special session dedicated to Kazakhstan and Central Asia as part of the Belt and Road international forum.
