Kazakhstan Harvests First 3 Million Tons of Grain
Kazakhstan Harvests First 3 Million Tons of Grain
Kazakhstan’s harvesting campaign is gaining strong momentum. As of August 25, farmers across the country have already threshed 3.1 million tons of grain crops. These initial results, obtained from 13.7% of the harvested area, lay the foundation for the nation’s food security in the new season.
Harvesting operations are unfolding across a vast territory, covering 15 regions of the republic. Among them are southern areas such as Turkestan and Zhambyl, as well as key grain-producing regions in the north and center of the country, including Akmola, Kostanay, and North Kazakhstan regions.
At this stage, particularly high yields are being demonstrated by farmers in East Kazakhstan, Almaty, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, North Kazakhstan, and Zhetysu regions.
Alongside the grain harvest, farmers are also working on other crops. So far, 24.4 thousand tons of oilseeds have been collected. More than 525 thousand tons of potatoes have been stored, with an average yield of 239 centners per hectare.
Vegetable growers are showing especially impressive results. To date, they have harvested 1.6 million tons of vegetables and 1.8 million tons of melons, with average yields reaching 286 and 269.9 centners per hectare, respectively.
Breaking down by specific vegetables, the leaders are:
• Onions: 256.7 thousand tons, with a record yield of 390 c/ha.
• Cabbage: 319.5 thousand tons, with 375.4 c/ha.
• Carrots: 98.8 thousand tons, with 298.1 c/ha.
These current figures are an important interim result, demonstrating the dynamics of the harvesting campaign. The bulk of the work is still ahead, and the final harvest numbers will depend on weather conditions and the coordinated efforts of farmers in the coming weeks.
