KTZ Launches New Regular Container Service Between China and the Moscow Transport Hub via Kazakhstan

The new route is expected to improve container transport efficiency and support exports of Kazakh grain to China

KTZ Express, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company JSC, has launched a new regular circular container service operating along the route China – Kazakhstan – Russia (Moscow Transport Hub) – northern stations of Kazakhstan – China. The project is designed to improve container fleet utilization, expand export transportation, and increase transit volumes through Kazakhstan.

The new service was introduced in response to growing demand for transit freight between China and Russia, as well as rising exports of Kazakh grain to China.

Under the logistics scheme, loaded container trains travel from China to the Moscow Transport Hub via Kazakhstan. After unloading, the containers are transported to northern Kazakhstan, where they are loaded with grain and then shipped back to China.

The average duration of one complete round trip is approximately 20 days. KTZ Express provides end-to-end logistics management, including container equipment and coordination of transportation throughout the entire route. Between April and June 2026, a total of 13 container trains, equivalent to 1,600 TEU, were dispatched under the new service.

According to the company, the new service will reduce empty container mileage, improve rolling stock efficiency, support exports of Kazakh grain to China, and contribute to higher freight volumes along the Northern Corridor. KTZ Express also plans to gradually increase transportation volumes in line with market demand.
