Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Discusses Grain Export to China
In the context of strengthening bilateral relations, the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Aidarbek Saparov, held discussions with Wan Zhangjun, the Director of the Department of Economy and Trade at the State Committee for Development and Reform of China. This meeting highlighted the significance of the agricultural sector in the international relations between the two countries.
Over the past year, the turnover of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and China has increased by 1.7 times, reaching more than $1.3 billion USD. In the first half of 2024, the trade volume of agricultural products continued to grow, increasing by 12% compared to the same period in the previous year, amounting to $648.1 million USD.
Wan Zhangjun emphasized the strategic importance of Kazakhstan as a key supplier of grains to the Chinese market. From Kazakhstan's side, there was an expressed willingness to increase grain exports to 2 million tons per year by directive of the heads of both states, with the potential to expand to 3 million tons.
The discussions also covered the prospects for the development of Kazakhstan-China trade cooperation in the grain sector, logistical aspects, and the creation of favorable conditions for sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership. Currently, Kazakhstan has signed protocols with China allowing for the export to the Chinese market of 28 types of plant and animal products. The registry includes 1,990 Kazakhstani enterprises authorized for export to China, demonstrating a broad spectrum of opportunities for increasing export operations.
These negotiations marked an important step towards expanding and deepening economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and China, opening new opportunities for the growth and prosperity of the agricultural sectors of both countries.
