Vegetable Oil Production in Kazakhstan Up by 16%
Price cap agreement signed: max 750 KZT/liter until Nov 2025

Over the first seven months of the 2024/25 agricultural season, oilseed processing in Kazakhstan has demonstrated steady growth. According to the National Association of Oilseed Processors (NAOSP), the total production of vegetable oils reached 394.1 thousand tonnes, which is 16% higher compared to the same period of the previous marketing year.
Sunflower oil remains the main driver of growth. From September 2024 to March 2025, the industry produced 329.4 thousand tonnes of crude sunflower oil — a 14% increase year-on-year. Refined sunflower oil production rose even more significantly, by 20%, reaching 97.3 thousand tonnes.
The NAOSP also reported stable dynamics in the processing of two other strategically important oilseed crops: rapeseed and soybeans. In seven months, Kazakhstan's oil mills produced 42.7 thousand tonnes of rapeseed oil and 16.8 thousand tonnes of soybean oil.
According to the association, the expansion of production volumes is helping stabilize the domestic market. Increased processing capacity allows not only for price control in retail but also supports related sectors of the economy — primarily poultry and livestock farming. These industries are the main consumers of high-protein by-products (meal and cake) obtained during oil production.
An additional step toward stabilization was taken on April 10, when NAOSP signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan. The document outlines a number of measures to control prices for socially significant food products. In particular, oil producers committed to capping the retail price of packaged sunflower oil at no more than 750 tenge per liter until November 1, 2025.
