Kazakhstan Expands Maritime Logistics: Cargo Transshipment Increased by 25% in the First Half of the Year

Maritime growth strengthens Kazakhstan’s agricultural export capacity

The volume of cargo transshipped through Kazakhstan's seaports in the first six months of 2025 reached 4.5 million tons, marking a 25% increase compared to the same period last year. This was announced during a meeting held by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where key directions for the development of the maritime industry were discussed.

Participants of the meeting highlighted the steady growth of cargo traffic at the Port of Aktau, as well as an increase in freight volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Positive dynamics were also recorded in container transportation, underlining the growing strategic importance of this route in regional logistics.

Particular attention was given to the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan for the Development of Maritime Infrastructure, adopted as part of the execution of the President of Kazakhstan’s Address in 2024. The plan includes the modernization of port capacities, development of portside logistics, and increasing the throughput of transport corridors.

At the end of the meeting, Zhanibek Taizhanov, Chairman of the Committee for Railway and Water Transport of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, outlined priority tasks for the near future. He issued a number of directives aimed at strengthening inter-agency coordination and cooperation with market participants to ensure the sustainable growth of maritime transportation and enhance the competitiveness of the transport corridor.

The growth in cargo transshipment reflects Kazakhstan’s strengthening role as a key logistics hub in the region. The development of maritime infrastructure is becoming a crucial factor in supporting foreign trade activity, including agricultural exports.

What Does This Mean for Farmers?
• Lower logistics costs: Improved infrastructure and increased freight volumes may reduce transportation costs, making Kazakh agricultural products more competitive on global markets.
• Expanded export geography: New export opportunities through seaports and the TITR allow farmers to access new sales markets, diversify risks, and increase profits.
• Faster delivery: Efficient maritime and multimodal logistics reduce delivery times, which is especially important for perishable products.
• More stable exports: The development of alternative routes reduces dependency on traditional corridors and increases the resilience of export flows.
