Moderate drought expected in some regions of Kazakhstan in May

According to forecasters, moisture levels across most of the country will remain near normal, but some areas are expected to experience a precipitation deficit

According to preliminary data from Kazhydromet, standardized precipitation indices (SPI) in May are expected to be close to the climatic norm across most of Kazakhstan. At the same time, moderately dry conditions are forecast in a number of regions. This is stated in the agency’s preliminary outlook.

In particular, in Aktobe region, moderate drought conditions are expected in some pastures of the Shalkar district, while moisture levels in other parts of the region are expected to remain near normal.

A similar situation is forecast in Zhambyl region: moderate drought is expected in the Kordai district, while conditions in other areas will remain close to normal.

In North Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Akmola, Pavlodar, West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Mangystau, Karaganda, Ulytau, East Kazakhstan, Abai, Almaty, Turkestan regions, as well as in Zhetysu region, moisture conditions are expected to correspond to long-term average values, according to forecasters.

Kazhydromet notes that the forecast is preliminary and may be уточнен as necessary.
