Potato planting areas to be expanded in the Abay region
The region is strengthening preparations for the spring field campaign
Measures are being taken in the region to expand potato planting areas with the involvement of large agricultural enterprises. In 2026, the total sown area of agricultural crops in the region will amount to 789.3 thousand hectares, of which 6.6 thousand hectares will be allocated for potatoes, according to the regional akimat’s press service.
According to the authorities, 5.2 thousand hectares will be allocated for vegetables and melons, 299.2 thousand hectares for grains and legumes, and 138 thousand hectares for forage crops.
At the same time, efforts continue to expand corn planting and strengthen the feed base amid the development of livestock farming. The area under oilseed crops will remain at last year’s level, totaling 340.3 thousand hectares.
The akimat noted that the region is fully supplied with seeds. Procurement of 6.6 thousand tons of elite seeds is underway, and their quality is being checked. The fertilizer application plan for 2026 is set at 82.9 thousand tons.
More than 12.6 thousand units of agricultural machinery will be involved in the sowing campaign. The demand for fuel and lubricants is estimated at 29.6 thousand tons, of which 25.9 thousand tons have already been allocated.
Financing of the spring field work is carried out under the “Ken Dala” program: 14 billion tenge has been allocated for this purpose, with 78 agricultural producers already utilizing 7.1 billion tenge.
