Kazakhstan–China: Major Transport Agreement Signed
New agreement to strengthen rail and logistics cooperation between China and Kazakhstan
The national company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” (KTZ) and the state corporation “China Railway” (CR) have signed a new comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement, replacing the previous one concluded in 2014. This was reported by the KTZ press service.
The new agreement reflects the current priorities of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in the field of transportation. Key elements of the document include the expansion and development of international transit routes passing through the territories of both countries and their neighbors, as well as the enhancement of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route to increase freight flows between China and Europe.
Particular attention is paid to infrastructure projects aimed at increasing the capacity of transport corridors. The agreement also outlines plans to strengthen cooperation in container transportation and to optimize routes and schedules to improve the efficiency of freight movement.
Both parties have agreed to work towards a flexible and competitive tariff policy, and to harmonize legal and regulatory frameworks to simplify cross-border procedures. In addition, the agreement includes commitments to implement modern digital technologies and standards, which will enhance safety and automation in transportation.
KTZ emphasized that strengthening transport and logistics ties with China will significantly enhance the appeal of the China–Europe route and reinforce Kazakhstan’s strategic role as a key transit hub on the Eurasian continent.
