North Kazakhstan Region Plans to Import More Than 6,000 Head of Breeding Livestock from Abroad
When selecting livestock, specialists assess the animals’ genetic potential, productivity and health status
The North Kazakhstan Region has begun the practical implementation of projects to acquire foreign breeding livestock under the Comprehensive Livestock Development Plan for 2026–2030. The work is aimed at expanding production, renewing the genetic potential of herds and increasing the productivity of the livestock sector.
To select the animals, a delegation from the North Kazakhstan Region visited livestock farms in Australia. The delegation included First Deputy Akim of the region Marat Tasmaganbetov, head of the Livestock Breeders’ Union Dauren Salykov and representatives of agricultural producers.
During the visit, specialists inspected the animals and carried out a preliminary selection. The assessment took into account breeding and productivity characteristics, breed, age, live weight, health status, conformation and other indicators affecting the productivity and reproductive qualities of the future herd.
Alongside the selection of livestock, organizational and economic issues related to the upcoming deliveries were also addressed. In particular, the parties considered the cost of the animals, veterinary requirements, quarantine conditions, logistics and expected delivery times.
The comprehensive assessment allows agricultural producers to consider not only the availability of animals when selecting livestock, but also their quality, genetic potential and the economic efficiency of the projects being implemented.
The first major deliveries of foreign breeding livestock to the North Kazakhstan Region are expected this autumn. In September–October 2026, the region plans to import more than 2,000 head of cattle and over 4,000 head of small livestock.
The selection of foreign breeding livestock will also be carried out in other regions of the country. In particular, a delegation from the Kostanay Region plans to visit Ireland in September for the same purpose.
The acquisition of breeding livestock is being carried out under the Comprehensive Livestock Development Plan for 2026–2030. The document provides for the creation of conditions to scale up the sector, attract investment and implement new production projects.
Concessional financing mechanisms are among the instruments being used to develop the sector. They enable agricultural producers to invest in expanding their farms, purchasing breeding livestock and creating a modern production base.
