Kazakhstan and Iran Discuss Increasing Grain and Vegetable Oil Supplies

Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports to the Iranian market increased by 97% in 2025

Kazakhstan and Iran intend to expand cooperation in the agro-industrial sector, including mutual trade, logistics and the implementation of joint investment projects. The prospects for cooperation were discussed by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov and Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Islamic Republic of Iran Fathi Akbar.

The bilateral meeting took place as part of the 7th meeting of the Council on Agro-Industrial Policy of the Eurasian Economic Union.

During the talks, Aidarbek Saparov noted the significant potential of the Iranian market for further expansion of Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial exports.

At the end of 2025, trade in agro-industrial products between Kazakhstan and Iran increased by 55.8%. Agro-industrial products accounted for 79% of total bilateral trade. At the same time, Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports to Iran increased by 97%.

According to Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture, one of the key objectives is to ensure stable and predictable supply volumes. Kazakhstan also intends to expand the range of exported products and strengthen a long-term, mutually beneficial agricultural partnership with Iran.

Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Fathi Akbar, in turn, confirmed the country’s interest in increasing imports of Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial products. The Iranian side is also interested in expanding practical cooperation in priority areas.

During the meeting, representatives of the two countries discussed current issues of bilateral cooperation. In particular, the talks focused on developing logistics capabilities and implementing joint investment projects.

The parties consider increasing supplies of grain products to be one of the main areas for further cooperation. Kazakhstan has the necessary raw material base and the capacity to form large and stable grain consignments. This creates opportunities for the long-term expansion of Kazakhstan’s presence in the Iranian market.

Vegetable oils represent another area with potential for increasing export supplies.

During the talks, particular attention was paid to cooperation in seed production and the development of the halal products market. The parties also discussed exchanging experience in modern agricultural technologies and introducing advanced solutions in agriculture.

Investment cooperation remains an important part of bilateral relations. Kazakhstan and Iran are interested in implementing joint projects that would not only increase mutual trade but also create new production and logistics chains in the agro-industrial sector.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to intensify practical cooperation and continue developing Kazakhstan-Iran relations in the agro-industrial sector.
