Kazakhstan Expands Grain Exports Without Container Transshipment

Containers move without transshipment: faster, cheaper, and preserving quality

From May to September 2025, Kedentransservice, together with LLP “Fort”, organized the transportation of ten trains carrying wheat from the northern regions of Kazakhstan to Vietnam. The total shipment volume reached 17,000 tons, with the Food Corporation acting as the consignor. This was reported by the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ).
The trains departed from the stations Ak-Kul, Azat, and Kokshetau, passed through the Chinese port of Lianyungang, and arrived at their final destination — the port of Haiphong in Vietnam.
New logistics scheme
The uniqueness of this route lies in the fact that the containers were not reloaded in China, as usually happens when switching from rail to sea transport. Instead, the wheat traveled in the same container from the point of departure to the final port. According to KTZ, this scheme made it possible to preserve product quality, accelerate delivery, and reduce costs by eliminating intermediate operations.

Significance for exports
The national company emphasized that the successful implementation of this project demonstrates new opportunities for Kazakhstan’s grain exports to Southeast Asia. This region continues to show stable growth in demand for agricultural products, giving Kazakhstan the chance to strengthen its position in these rapidly developing markets.
Kedentransservice plans to scale up this experience and expand the geography of export routes, thereby enhancing Kazakhstan’s role in the global food supply chain.

In the current marketing year, Kazakhstan has already expanded its wheat sales markets thanks to the government’s program of transport subsidies. The authorities have confirmed that this support will continue in the new season, creating additional incentives for exporters.
