Khorgos Gateway Expands the Transit Capacity of Its Dry Port

Modernization of the dry port has accelerated cargo handling and strengthened routes between China, Europe, and Central Asia

The Khorgos Gateway dry port, located within a special economic zone, continues to increase its transit cargo volumes. In 2025, more than 372,000 TEU passed through the logistics hub, which is 2% higher than in the previous year, according to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ).

The company noted that Khorgos Gateway has strengthened its position as one of the key transshipment centers along the China–Europe and China–Central Asia corridors.

During 2025, ten additional broad-gauge railway lines were commissioned at the dry port. At the same time, a set of digital infrastructure modernization measures was implemented, significantly accelerating container processing — transshipment time was reduced from five hours to one hour.

Khorgos Gateway is the second joint logistics project between Kazakhstan and China, following the logistics base in Lianyungang. The complex includes a railway transshipment station, a grain handling terminal including wheat, and a container yard.

KTZ emphasized that due to the advantageous location of the dry port within the special economic zone, companies from various industries have joined the project. This contributes to the development of the processing industry and strengthens the region’s logistics potential.
