KTZ has once again initiated an increase in main railway network service tariffs

The proposed changes provide for an annual increase in tariffs for the transportation of goods until 2030, with the exception of certain categories

On July 13, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) submitted a new application seeking approval to increase tariffs for services provided by the Main Railway Network (MRN).

According to the Association of Kazakhstan Freight Railway Carriers, the proposal calls for annual tariff increases of 25% for all freight transportation in 2026–2027 and 26% annually in 2028–2030. The proposed changes do not apply to socially significant food products, military and special cargo, or the transportation of citizens' personal belongings.

The Grain Union of Kazakhstan stated that the modernization of railway infrastructure should not be financed primarily at the expense of domestic shippers.

According to Yevgeny Karabanov, Head of the Analytics Committee of the Grain Union of Kazakhstan, exporters are unable to pass additional transportation costs on to international buyers. As a result, these expenses affect grain purchase prices and ultimately reduce the income of Kazakhstan's agricultural producers.

The Grain Union of Kazakhstan also expressed its readiness to participate in discussions of the proposal, noting that changes in MRN service tariffs directly affect railway transportation costs, the export competitiveness of Kazakh grain, and the overall economy of the country's agro-industrial sector.
