Between Rain and Drought: Akmola Region's Farmers Summarize Harvest Results

Akmola Region Harvest Summary: Weather Challenges and Uneven Yields

The 2025 grain harvesting campaign in the Akmola region took place under conditions of weather instability and significant regional differences. Yield and quality varied both between districts and among farms within them.

In some farms of the Atbasar district, the harvest is complete. The yield was 10–15 centners per hectare. Despite good crop stand, a lack of moisture limited the potential. Many farms had expected more. Prolonged September rains delayed the harvest for up to 10 days, which reduced the quality. The grain is mostly being classified as third class.

A similar situation is observed in the Zhaksy district. The yield is around 22 c/ha. The initial quality was high: gluten content of 22–24%, with dense grain. After the rains, the indicators dropped: gluten content of 18–19%, fourth class. The grain requires drying. Despite the losses, the results are considered satisfactory.

According to producers, at the end of the harvest, wheat prices were as follows: with 30% gluten – 125,000–130,000 KZT/t, 28% – about 115,000, 25% – 95,000–100,000, and 23% – 85,000–90,000.

In the Zerendi district, farm yields were 15–18 c/ha. A decrease in quality was noted. Even with a good appearance of the ear, a delay in harvesting by a few days led to a loss of quality indicators.

In the Tselinograd district, a number of farms achieved yields of 25 c/ha, with gluten content of 24-25%, third class. However, in other farms, the yield was around 10 c/ha, which is explained by weak vegetation and a lack of rainfall in the summer.

A yield of 18 c/ha was recorded in the Zharkain district. September was dry, and the harvest proceeded without delays. The quality is predominantly third class. Farmers are holding back their grain, expecting prices to rise above 100,000 KZT/t.

In the Sandyktau district, some farms reported yields of 25 c/ha and higher.

The average expected yield for the region, based on surveys and observations in August, was 9.2–11.2 c/ha. The maximum was in the Burabay district, up to 18.3 c/ha, and the minimum was in the Zharkain and Korgalzhyn districts, up to 10.7 c/ha. With an average yield of 10.2 c/ha and a sown area of 3.8 million hectares, the expected gross grain harvest is 3.9 million tons.

Thus, data from individual farms in six districts confirm the high heterogeneity of the season in terms of yield and grain quality.
