Wholesale Markets for Farmers’ Products to Appear in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan has embarked on creating a new food supply system that promises to completely transform supply chains. As part of the Trade Policy Concept of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2030, developed by the Ministry of Trade and Integration, it is planned to build a network of modern wholesale markets near major cities of the country.

This initiative is designed to solve one of the main problems of local agribusiness — limited access to large retail chains for small and medium-sized producers. The new infrastructure will allow farmers to sell their products directly. This, in turn, will significantly reduce the number of intermediaries, lower producers’ costs, and increase the profitability of their businesses.

Wholesale markets will serve as key distribution hubs from which fresh and high-quality products will be supplied to non-chain stores and catering establishments. An important advantage will be enhanced quality control. Strict veterinary and phytosanitary inspections will be carried out at these markets. In addition, all necessary documentation for the products will be issued on-site. This will ensure a high level of safety and transparency for all market participants, from farmers to end consumers.

The development of such platforms is not just a modernization of the trade sector, but a strategic measure to support the local agro-industrial complex. The construction of wholesale distribution centers has already been named an important step in strengthening the country’s food security.

To implement the project, state support measures are envisaged, including assistance in the development of all necessary trade infrastructure. In the near future, local executive bodies, together with socio-entrepreneurial corporations, will select optimal sites for construction. They will also conduct logistics and transport accessibility analyses to ensure the maximum efficiency of the new system.

Thus, the project will not only support local farmers but also provide the population with high-quality and affordable products.
