Construction of Kazakhstan's First Fish Feed Plant Begins
The new facility, with an annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes, will help reduce feed imports and support the development of the country's aquaculture industry
With the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, construction has begun on the country's first plant for the production of extruded fish feed. The new facility will have an annual production capacity of 25,000 tonnes. The project is aimed at developing Kazakhstan's aquaculture sector, reducing dependence on imported feed, and strengthening domestic production.
According to the Ministry, commercial fish production in Kazakhstan continues to grow steadily. In 2025, the country produced approximately 23,000 tonnes of marketable fish, including around 4,000 tonnes of trout. In 2026, production is expected to increase to 64,700 tonnes. Growing production volumes, including at enterprises such as Poseidon LLP, are driving demand for specialized high-quality fish feed.
Kazakhstan's fish farming industry requires approximately 72,000 tonnes of feed annually. Although most of this demand is already covered by domestic manufacturers, the country still depends on imports of high-protein fish feed.
Demand remains particularly high for advanced feed designed for commercially valuable fish species such as trout and sturgeon, which had not previously been produced in Kazakhstan. The launch of the new plant will enable aquaculture enterprises to obtain high-quality domestically produced fish feed.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the project is an example of effective cooperation between the government and the private sector. The new facility is expected to improve the competitiveness of Kazakhstan's aquaculture industry, strengthen food security, and create new jobs in the regions.
