Transit between Kazakhstan and China will receive a long-term development strategy

The parties intend to synchronize infrastructure development, expand logistics hubs, and implement digital solutions

Kazakhstan and China have reached an agreement to develop a long-term program aimed at enhancing transit potential and increasing transport volumes. The document предусматривает synchronized development of border and port infrastructure, the creation and expansion of transport and logistics hubs, as well as deeper cooperation in railway engineering. In addition, the parties intend to continue implementing digital technologies.

These agreements were reached following the 16th meeting of the Kazakhstan–China Subcommittee on Cooperation in Railway Transport, held in Beijing. The meeting was chaired by Vice Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhanibek Taizhanov and Deputy Head of the National Railway Administration of the People’s Republic of China Wu Dejin.

During the meeting, participants discussed the current state and prospects for the development of railway transportation between the two countries, as well as issues related to further increasing transit potential. Positive dynamics in transport volume growth and ongoing modernization of railway infrastructure were noted.

The parties emphasized the strategic importance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and confirmed their interest in its further development. In particular, this includes the modernization of the port infrastructure of Aktau and Kuryk, with the goal of increasing container transit volumes to 3,000 trains by 2029.
