🌍 Uzbekistan and Afghanistan Remove Tariffs on 14 Goods Under New Trade Agreement

🔹 Uzbekistan and Afghanistan will remove tariffs on 14 goods starting from October 1, 2024.

🔹 To expand the import of agricultural products from Afghanistan, the phytosanitary permit procedure will be simplified.

🔹 Both sides aim to increase mutual trade turnover to $1 billion in 2024 and up to $3 billion in the near future.

The official visit of Uzbekistan’s delegation, led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, to Afghanistan has opened new horizons for economic cooperation between the two countries. During the negotiations, several significant agreements were reached, aimed at developing bilateral trade and stimulating investments.

One of the key achievements was the signing of a preferential trade agreement, which will come into force on October 1 of this year. This agreement provides for the removal of import duties on 14 categories of goods, creating more favorable conditions for trade between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

An important step towards expanding the import of agricultural products from Afghanistan will be the simplification of the procedure for issuing phytosanitary permits. This step will speed up the supply process and increase the volume of agricultural imports.

During the negotiations, both sides emphasized the significant potential to increase mutual trade turnover. An ambitious goal has been set to bring bilateral trade volume to $1 billion in 2024 and up to $3 billion in the near future. To achieve these targets, both sides agreed to more actively utilize existing but underutilized resources, which will create additional opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

To attract Afghan investments to Uzbekistan, an agreement on mutual promotion and protection of investments was signed. This document lays the foundation for active work by Afghan entrepreneurs in the Uzbek market, providing them with legal protection and favorable conditions for doing business.

Thus, the visit of the Uzbekistan delegation to Afghanistan marked a significant step towards deepening economic cooperation, creating new opportunities for the growth and development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.
