Kazakhstan Blocks Entry of Infested Plums and Cherries from Kyrgyzstan
Infested fruit shipments were denied entry into Kazakhstan and returned to the senders
The Zhambyl Regional Territorial Inspectorate of the Committee for State Inspection in the Agro-Industrial Complex under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan has prevented the import of fruit and vegetable shipments infested with dangerous quarantine pests into the country.
The violations were detected during phytosanitary inspections at the Korday road border checkpoint, where specialists examined vehicles arriving from the Kyrgyz Republic.
During the inspection, Comstock mealybug was found in a shipment of fresh plums weighing 800 kg. In addition, the Oriental fruit fly was detected in two shipments of cherries with a total weight of 1,450 kg.
According to the agency, the identified quarantine pests pose a serious threat to agriculture, as they are capable of damaging a wide range of fruit crops and, if introduced, could cause significant losses to Kazakhstan's horticultural sector.
Following the phytosanitary inspection, all infested products were declared unsafe, denied entry into the Republic of Kazakhstan, and returned to the senders in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Administrative measures were taken against the violators, including the imposition of fines in accordance with the legislation.
The Committee for State Inspection in the Agro-Industrial Complex continues to strengthen phytosanitary control at the state border to prevent the introduction and spread of dangerous quarantine pests and to safeguard Kazakhstan's phytosanitary security.
