Kazakhstan to Expand the Use of AI and Satellite Monitoring in Agriculture
Improving statistical reporting will become the foundation for more effective sector planning and oversight of state support
The sixth meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on ensuring the reliability of agricultural statistics and preventing violations in the allocation of state subsidies was held at the S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Bureau of National Statistics, the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development, JSC NC Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary, the Financial Monitoring Agency, the Supreme Audit Chamber, the National Security Committee, JSC National Managing Holding Baiterek, and the scientific community took part in the meeting.
Vice Minister of Agriculture Amangaliy Berdalin emphasized that ensuring the reliability of statistical information is strategically important for effective government planning and forecasting the development of the agricultural sector. He recalled that a joint audit conducted in 2024 at the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture resulted in the removal from statistical records of 2 million head of cattle, 3.2 million sheep and goats, 3 million tonnes of milk, 1.7 million tonnes of potatoes, and more than 300 thousand tonnes of onions.
According to the Vice Minister, future efforts should focus on establishing a systematic accounting system through the integration of information systems and the development of interagency data exchange.
Following the meeting, participants decided to expand the list of agricultural crops monitored by satellite, increase the use of artificial intelligence technologies in cooperation with scientists from the S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University, and apply Earth remote sensing data for agricultural insurance and monitoring the distribution of state subsidies.
