Livestock Industry in Kazakhstan: Meat Production Increased by 5.2% in January 2025

Exports are growing – Kazakh beef is now sold in 8 countries

Kazakhstan continues to see steady growth in beef production, allowing the country not only to fully meet domestic market demand but also to actively expand export supplies.
At the end of 2024, the total meat production amounted to 430,000 tons, which is 7.5% more than the previous year. The growth trend continues in 2025: in January alone, 24.7 thousand tons of beef were produced, which is 5.2% higher than in the same period last year.

Kazakh Beef Expanding to International Markets
Today, Kazakh producers successfully export beef and live cattle to eight countries worldwide, demonstrating the high quality and competitiveness of their products.
To further develop livestock farming, 249 feedlots are operating in the country with a total capacity of 380,100 heads. According to monitoring data, 174,200 heads of cattle are currently being fattened, which accounts for 45.8% of the total feedlot capacity.

Increase in Livestock and Poultry Numbers
According to data from the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as of March 1, 2025, the number of livestock and poultry in Kazakhstan has increased across most categories compared to the same period last year.
Thus, compared to 2024, the number of cattle, sheep, goats, and poultry has grown, while the number of pigs has decreased.

Government Support for the Industry
To support livestock farmers, the government provides financial assistance. In particular, subsidies for bulls sent for fattening or slaughter at meat processing enterprises have been introduced. So far, 6.4 billion tenge in subsidies have been paid, supporting 130,000 head of cattle. The subsidy rate is 200 tenge per kilogram of live weight.
Additionally, the Index of Physical Volume (IPV) of gross livestock production for January-February 2025 was 103.4%, indicating continued growth in the sector.

Future Prospects
The Ministry of Agriculture continues to work on stimulating high-quality meat production, expanding export opportunities, and increasing the efficiency of the livestock industry. Further support measures are expected to not only boost production volumes but also improve the profitability of livestock enterprises.
The increase in indicators in 2025 confirms that Kazakhstan is successfully moving toward strengthening its food security and expanding into new export markets.
