Kazakhstan Supports "Trans-Altai Dialogue": A New Era of Cooperation with China, Russia, and Mongolia

Regional Cooperation and Economic Growth

At the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his support for the new initiative, the “Trans-Altai Dialogue.” This initiative is aimed at the effective utilization of the potential of the vast Eurasian region, which includes Kazakhstan, Russia, China, and Mongolia.

Tokayev emphasized that the region possesses a unique territory, a significant population, and impressive economic power. To realize large-scale plans, he considers it necessary to further develop transport connectivity among the countries and to work jointly on issues of a transit tariff strategy. According to Tokayev, these topics may be included in the agenda of the first SCO Forum, which will be held in November in Aktau. The event will be attended by heads of ports and logistics centers, making it an ideal platform for discussing such issues.

In addition, Tokayev highlighted the enormous potential of other major projects, such as the mega-project “Belt and Road Initiative”, which has already gained the support of more than 150 countries. He also noted the importance of transport corridors such as “North–South”, “East–West”, and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. According to him, these projects could bring participants in trade and logistics operations up to 1.5 trillion US dollars in annual revenues.

Kazakhstan’s support of the “Trans-Altai Dialogue” underscores the country’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and developing new economic ties. This initiative may become a key element in the strategy for boosting the economic potential of the participating countries.
