Grain transportation tariffs may increase by 2.6 times

The initiative is linked to the need to finance infrastructure projects and modernize the railway network

The national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy has submitted an application to the Committee for Regulation of Natural Monopolies to revise tariffs for main railway network services for the period 2026–2030.

According to the operator’s proposal, a significant increase in transportation costs is planned from June 1, 2026, across several categories. In particular, tariffs for transporting non-ferrous ore may rise by 3.1 times, mineral fertilizers, chemicals, and soda by 2.9 times, coal by 2.7 times, and grain by 2.6 times. Transportation of iron ore may increase by 2.5 times, alumina by 2.4 times, and construction materials and timber by 2.1 times. A similar 2.1-fold increase is proposed for non-ferrous and ferrous metals, while scrap metal and cotton fiber may rise by 2 times. Tariffs for oil and petroleum products may increase by 1.8 times, and for other cargo and empty runs by 2.8 times.

At the same time, it is noted that tariffs for socially significant goods are expected to remain unchanged.

The initiative to increase tariffs is explained by the need to attract additional funding for infrastructure projects. These include the construction of railway lines “Darbaza – Maktaaral”, “Bakhty – Ayagoz”, “Moyynty – Kyzylzha”, modernization of the “Altynkol – Zhetygen” section, implementation of automatic blocking systems on routes such as “Kyzylzhar – Saksaulskaya”, “Kandyagash – Tobol”, “Aksu-1 – Degelen – Zhana-Semey”, “Shalkar – Beineu”, “Nickeltau – Alimbet”, as well as the development of reception and dispatch tracks on the “Beineu – Mangistau” line and modernization of railway stations across the country.
