Kazhydromet Reports Declining Moisture Reserves in Kazakhstan’s Topsoil
According to Kazhydromet, insufficient soil moisture persisted in the central and eastern regions of Kazakhstan during the second ten-day period of July, while air temperatures in the south and southeast exceeded the climatic norm by 3–6°C
During the second ten-day period of July, moisture reserves in the topsoil continued to decline across most observation sites in Kazakhstan. This is stated in Kazhydromet’s ten-day review based on instrumental soil moisture measurements.
In the western and northern regions, satisfactory and optimal moisture conditions were generally maintained in the 50-centimeter and one-meter soil layers. However, productive moisture reserves in the topsoil continued to decrease at most observation sites.
In the central and eastern parts of the country, productive moisture reserves in both the topsoil and the 50-centimeter soil layer remained insufficient.
In the southern and southeastern regions, where winter grain crops are cultivated, the average air temperature during the second ten-day period of July exceeded the climatic norm by 3–6°C. No precipitation was recorded in these areas.
Winter grain crops in the south and southeast were predominantly at the full maturity stage. In several districts of the Zhambyl and Turkistan regions, farmers began harvesting winter wheat.
