Weather conditions in the 2026 agricultural season: what grain producers can expect

Key changes will affect the temperature regime and the distribution of precipitation throughout the season

RSE “Kazhydromet” has published an advisory weather forecast for the period from April to October 2026. According to meteorologists, in April and May, most of Kazakhstan is expected to experience temperatures above the climatic norm with moderate precipitation levels. An exception will be April, when wetter conditions are forecast in the western regions, as well as in mountainous and foothill areas of the south, southeast, and east of the country.

The summer season is expected to be characterized by higher temperatures: in most parts of the republic, average temperatures will exceed the norm by 1–2 degrees. In July, the hottest weather is forecast for the western part of Kazakhstan, while more moderate conditions are expected in the rest of the country.

In June, precipitation across most of the country is expected to be near normal, although deficits are likely in the southwest, northwest, central, and southern regions. According to meteorologists, July will stand out due to uneven precipitation distribution: a shortage is expected in the west, near-normal levels in the northern, central, and southern regions, while excess moisture is possible in the southeastern part of the country. This includes Zhambyl, Almaty, Zhetysu and Abai regions, East Kazakhstan and Pavlodar regions, most of Karaganda region, eastern Turkestan region, and the southeastern edge of Akmola region.

In August, a decrease in precipitation is expected across most of Kazakhstan; however, in the western and northeastern regions, as well as in mountainous and foothill areas of the south, southeast, and east, precipitation levels are expected to remain within normal ranges.

In autumn, the overall temperature background is expected to remain above climatic norms. In September, temperatures will be near normal in the east, and in October — in the west and northwest. Precipitation during autumn is generally expected to be below normal. At the same time, in September, near-normal levels are possible in parts of the west, north, east, southeast, and south — including North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, most of West Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Akmola, Pavlodar regions, Abai region, the northernmost part of Aktobe region, as well as the southern halves of Turkestan, Zhambyl, and Almaty regions, and the southeastern part of Zhetysu region.

In October, near-normal precipitation is forecast in the west and northwest, as well as in the southeastern part of the country — including West Kazakhstan, Atyrau, Mangystau regions, most of Aktobe, Almaty and Zhetysu regions, East Kazakhstan region, western Kostanay region, and the southeastern parts of Zhambyl and Abai regions.
