Kazakhstan’s Sown Area Will Exceed 23.8 Million Hectares

The country continues efforts to diversify crop structure and optimize water resources

Kazakhstan’s total sown area in 2026 will exceed 23.8 million hectares. Vice Minister of Agriculture Azat Sultanov reported on the progress of spring fieldwork during a Government meeting.

According to him, the area under agricultural crops this season increased by 180 thousand hectares compared to last year. Oilseed crops will exceed 4 million hectares, while fodder crops will cover 3.3 million hectares. To provide raw materials for processing projects, the corn planting area has been expanded to 265 thousand hectares, and potato plantings in organized farms will increase by 10 thousand hectares.

As the Vice Minister noted, work on diversifying crop structure continues in line with the instructions of the Head of State. Wheat acreage will decrease by 125 thousand hectares to 12.1 million hectares.

In addition, rice acreage has been optimized to reduce pressure on water resources, with a reduction of 20.2 thousand hectares. At the same time, cotton areas using drip irrigation technology will increase by 29.8 thousand hectares.

The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that the approved crop structure will help supply the domestic market with socially important products, take into account external demand conditions, and reduce the risks of price fluctuations.
