Quarantine virus detected in a batch of tomato seeds imported to Kazakhstan
The violation was identified during routine quarantine phytosanitary control
In the Karaganda region, a dangerous virus was detected in imported tomato seeds during quarantine phytosanitary control. The inspection was carried out by a state plant quarantine inspector of the regional territorial inspection. Samples were taken from 130 packets of seeds imported from the Russian Federation for laboratory analysis.
According to the results of the quarantine phytosanitary examination conducted by the RSE “Phytosanitary,” Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) was identified in the tested samples. The virus is included in the list of quarantine objects in Kazakhstan.
Following the identified violation, administrative case materials have been submitted to the court for a decision in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Agriculture reminds participants of foreign economic activity of the need to strictly comply with plant quarantine legislation and phytosanitary requirements when importing regulated products into the country. Compliance with established control procedures and safety requirements is a key condition for ensuring phytosanitary security and the stable development of the agricultural sector.
