Cloning as a way to records: first clone calf born in Russia

A breakthrough in livestock breeding has been realized in Russia thanks to the Handmade Cloning method. "Progress Agro", an agricultural research company, announced the successful birth of the country's first cloned calf. The innovative procedure was carried out at the Rassvet farm located in the Krasnodar region.

This large-scale step was made possible by using genetic material from a cow that set a record for milk volume, reaching figures of 18 tons per year, as opposed to the average of 10 tons typical of conventional animals. According to experts, this approach opens up new prospects for the agricultural industry, promising a significant economic effect and stimulating the development of the livestock industry through the breeding of highly productive animals.

Behind the success is the long-term work of a team of scientists, including specialists in embryology, genetics, cell technology, veterinary medicine, zootechnics and engineering. The main breakthrough was made in September 2022, when the first clone embryo was obtained thanks to the Handmade Cloning method, which dispenses with the use of complex and expensive equipment.

Until that moment, no successful experiments in animal breeding using Handmade Cloning technology had been conducted in Russia. This method opens up new opportunities for Progress Agro to realize strategic plans for breeding genotyped animals with high productivity, promising significant progress in the country's agricultural industry.
